How to care for Mandevilla vines

         Can you give me some information on how to look after Mandevilla vines.  Regards Janet.

Answer:  Hi Janet,

                             They are a fairly easy plant to look after.   They generally require a stake or trellis to grow up, you may like to tie them as they grow with a plant tie.  They will eventually grow around any trellis you use, and hold on themelves.  Fertilise with a general purpose garden fertiliser in spring, just a small sprinkle.  You can also use slow release fertiliser, you can use this any time of year.  In regard to pruning it is best to prune after flowering.  You can cut them back fairly hard as they are generally fast growing.    For varieties that grow like shrubs, it is best to cut them back hard as this will assist them branch.
