Flamingo flower - Anthurium flowering pot plants

Anthurim, Flamingo flowers are one of the best flowering indoor plants.   They are very easy to maintain and can last for many years if grown in the right conditions.   They can also be grown as patio plants.   Anthurim's are a clumping plants which means that they will not tend to over-grow their pots quickly.   They have elongated, glossy leaves and upstanding flowers which appear throughout the year.   There are various flower colours from reds, pinks and whites.   They will come under various names and many new varieties have been developed, so you have plenty of choices.

Anthurim Flamingo flowers do best in bright light indoor conditions, so pick a spot that get a good duration of light during the day.   Although they will grow under artificial light they do best with natural light.   A sunny kitchen or entrance area is a good spot to place the Flamingo flower.    Self-watering pots are great way to water this plant and the use of some liquid fertiliser now and then during the growing season will keep them looking and flowering well.

Aphelandra - flowering potted indoor plant

Aphelandra plants are an unusual and colourful indoor plant.   The most common varieties have large dark green leaves with white vanes.   Aphelandra plants also flower, with a flower spike developing on the ends of the stems.   Aphelandra indoor plants do best in bright indoor light conditions and require a large pot if you would like to keep them for many years.   Self-watering pots are an easy way to water Aphelandra plants as they need good consistent moisture to do well.   Self-watering pots have a reservoir for water at the base of the pot, so you only have to fill the reservoir and the plant will be watered for a number of weeks or more.   Aphelandra plants also require good fertilising to look their best. We suggest the use of a seaweed based liquid fertiliser with some added NPK fertiliser.    A fertilise once every one to two months is all that is required.   There are many premade fertilisers which are available at your local nursery that will do the job.

Aspidistra - Hardy low water use house plant

Aspidistras have been used as indoor plants for many years.   They are one of the toughest indoor plants and once given a good bright light situation will continue to look good for many years.   Aspidistra, also known as "Caste Iron Plant" has long, broad, strappy leaves and grows from a number of bulbs, that from a clump.   When grown well, this is a great looking plant for indoor home, office and patio situations.   One drawback to growing Aspidistras, is that they are generally slow growing.   So, it is worth getting one that is already large and growing well, then it will maintain this look for many years.   Aspidistras can grow in low light, but as said, do not expect fast growth, it is best to give them a nice bright light spot on a patio for the growing season to get them to regenerated nicely.   Although Aspidistra does not need much water, or fertiliser, when they are in a bright light situation, where they can grow new leaves, it is worth using a liquid fertiliser.   A seaweed fertiliser with added NPK fertiliser is a good choice.  It is not unusual for people who own Aspidistra plants that they have moved from house to house, the plants being decades old.
