How to fertilise your tomatoes for lots of fruit

To grow the best tomatoes the addition of fertilisers is very important.    Animal manure are excellent when dug into the bed prior to planting.   However the addition of granular NPK fertilisers or liquid fertilisers will substantially improve the quality and size of fruit.   A general purpose vegetable fertiliser is a very good start, you will need to add this in the first few weeks of plant growth and then around every three weeks during the growing season.   Around 1 to 2 good handfuls spread around the root zone is sufficient.   Going one step further the use of liquid fertilisers will also enhance growth.   Try to use a seaweed based NPK liquid fertiliser every two weeks.    If you find you are not getting many fruit or the fruit is yellowish (depending on variety) you may need to add some Postash to the soil as well.  This is available from most plant nurseries.  Most granular ferilisers can just be spread on the surface, there is no need to dig in,  just water in.
