Hi,
I live on a farm out of Nyabing in the Great Southern area of WA. I have a south facing garden bed that doesn't receive a lot of sun in winter, sometimes late afternoon sun and only an hour or 2 in the morning in summer. The house is a country farmhouse style with bullnose verandah around the front. I want to keep in the style of the house so don't want to go ferns or grasses and they need to be low plants, 1m tops. Any suggestions as to some suitable shade loving plants for this area would be appreciated. Would like some flowers if possible. Thanks Jodie

Hi Jodie,
If you would like to use a plant that is suitable for an older style house then Clivia's would be the best choice. They have dark green strappy leaves and develop large flowers in winter. The flower colours come in burnt Orange, Red and White. Orange being the most commonly available. They prefer shady spots and do not need a lot of water.
