Dear gardenguide,
Winter began and I was tempted by a 50% sale at my local nursery. I have bought Kangaroo paw, Blue poa, Acmena smithii, Mini mondo, Cordylines etc. A friend of mine just made a remark that winter is not a good time for planting. Is there any way to overcome that roule? What is your expert opinion on the issue. Thanks Andre'
Answer:
Hi Andre',
Well it does depend on where you are. If you are in an area which gets very heavy frost or snow, best to leave planting till Spring. The plants will stay in there pots till Spring, they will be okay. But generally speaking winter is a good time to be planting in Australia, you avoid periods of heat stress and there is normally plently of moisture around. What does happen is that the plants will not grow much in winter, they will just sit there. However, when spring does come they will take off nicely.
