The best time to fertilise hibiscus plants is in spring, when they are actively growing. You use an organic fertiliser if possible, like a manure. Hibiscus also respond very well to the use of granular fertilisers. A general purpose garden granular fertiliser is okay. Normally a dose of around 50grams per square metre is sufficient, spread around the root zone. Slow release fertilisers are good also, but can be a little slow acting for hibiscus growth spurts in spring.
