Generally speaking many waterwise and drought tolerant species do not require a lot of fertilizer. However in cases where your native plants are not thriving fertilizer may be required. When you do fertilize use organic fertilizers when possible or slow release fertilizers. If you prefer to use a granular fertilizer, say a general purpose garden fertilizer only use a small amount a couple of times a year. Normally the best time to fertilize drought tolerant species is during rain periods or when they are actively growing new foliage. For granular fertilizers use only around 20grams per square metre a couple of times a year.
