Vinca major is a small shrub with a height of 50cm and a spread of 50cm. They are primarily used as an annual, but can also last for up to 4 years in good conditions. The plant has glossy, lime green leaves and a abundance of bright coloured flowers. The flower colours are numberous, apricot, pink, red, yellow and white, with variations of all these as well. Suitable for boarder planting or mass planting in cottage or even tropical gardens. These plants will brighten up the area with vibrant colour. They can take a small amount of shade, but grow best in full sun in a well drained soil. They are also more hardy then many other bedding plants, and do not require a lot of water once establsihed. Great for areas with warm termperate conditions, where they will last for a number of years. In areas with cool winters, or frosts use as an annual.

Marigolds are brightly coloured annuals, which grow to a height of 50cm. There are also some great dwarf varieties, which only grow to around 25cm. The flower colours mainly range from yellows to burnt orange and variations in between.. Marigolds have dark green, lush leaf growth. They flower through spring, summer and into autumn. Marigolds grow best in full sun and fertile, organically rich soil. Heavy soils are acceptable, but they must have reasonable drainage. Marigolds need regular watering to establish well.. Plant in early spring, in warm termperate, temperate and cool temperate area after frosts have finished. Marigolds are used commonly as a bedding plant, in large masses, but they also are a good potted patio plant.

Salvias are bushy annuals, which can last a number of years in excellent conditions. Salvias grow to a height of 60cm with a spread of 50cm. They develop numerous flower heads that shoot upwards like little sky rockets. The flower colours are vibrant blues, reds and whites. They make a great plant to plant along a fence or as a background plant. They can be cut back after flowering. This will produce new growth and more flowers. Full sun positions are best, with a organically rich , well drained soil. Soil enrichment with manures Eg, sheep or cow manure, will assist root development. Moderate watering is required. Salvias make good potted plants, a large pot is best to maintain moisture.

Primulas are a soft foliage annual which grows to a height of around 25cm. They have an old world charm, which make you think of an English cottage garden. Generally they are mass planted for their subtle flower colours, soft hues of mauve, pink, white, purple and even reds. They make a great boarder plant along a path and also as a potted colour plant. Unlike many other annuals, they interact well with roses and can be planted around the base of standard roses in mass plantings. Full sun is best, in a fertile soil. Flowering occurs through the warmer parts of the year in cool temperate areas. In temperate and warm temperate areas, they can be grow in winter, given a sunny, frost free position. Primulas require regular watering.
