Identify this tree please - Christine - Newcastle

I have a 15 year old tree which was labelled Alnus acuminata when I bought it.  I bought it as we have boggy soil and to grow quickly and it has worked brilliantly.   However, I 've recenlty have been reading about this tree (the tree indicated on the lable) in books, and it bears no resemblance to the tree we have.  Can you identify this tree for us, we have enclosed a photo. Sick Burgundy Iceberg Roses - Neville - Sydney NSW

Hi,

We planted 10 Standard  Swanes Burgundy Iceberg roses about 10 weeks ago.  They seemed to be healthy and grew welll initially and had new leaves and flowers. The first flowers that came were a pale burgundy colour, but they have turned white !! and as time went on the flowers got smaller and fewer.  The plants are also looking sick.  Can you advise on what may be going on with our roses, and give some suggested solutions.  We have enclosed a photo of one of the roses.  We have prepared the soil well, the previous soil was clay and rock.  We have treated them with seasol and for curl grubs.  Regards Neville, Sydney.

Lawn invader bugs - Rob - Perth, Australia

I noticed  recently that my Velvet Buffalo lawn has developed some dying patches ....out of the blue.   As it is summer I thought that the areas must be drying out, so I gave the areas a really good soaking with the hose.  I was suprised to see all these bugs coming up to the surface there seems to be heaps of them.  I think they are doing the damage in my lawn.  I have enclosed a photo of these catapillar looking bugs.  Can you tell me what they are, and how to fix them.  They are about 2cm long and 5mm wide with brown stipes on the body.  Thanks Rob.
