Lilly Pilly trees make excellent standard plants. From 1.2m up to 3m. Acmena smithii is used for larger Standards, but there are now many new varieties in use, eg Bush Xmas. Lilly Pilly's are evergreen and have small glossy leaves with red new growth. They look great in formal or cottage style gardens. They require regular pruning to keep a neat shape. eg once a month. Only pest that seems to effect them is an insect called a Psyllid which puts dimples in the leaves in winter/spring. They will grow in most soils from sandy to heavy loam, but prefer well drained organically rich soil. NSW,QLD,VIC,SA,TAS,WA.
