Orange Jessamine -Murraya paniculata

As a shrub, Murraya generally grows to 4m. It has lush green, thick floiage and masses of white flowers in Spring, although it can flower throughout the year in warmer climates. Theflowers have a beautiful jasmaine scent. Oneof the most loved garden shrubs in Australia.Murraya can be grown into an excellenthedge or screen plant, from 1m up to 4m. Once established is surprisingly hardy for a subtropical plant. Will grow well in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Darwin. A organically rich, well drained soil is required for Murraya to look it's best. Frosts will knock them back, somewhat, but they do recover well.

Lilly Pilly - Acmena smithii

This variety can grow into a sizable tree, but has been grown successfully for many years as a tall hedge from 1.5m up to 5m. It is an Australian native subtropical plant, but will grow in more temperate climates also. Used extensively in Sydney and NSW. Normally fast growing. One draw back to this variety is a pest called a Lilly Pilly Psyllid, which damages the leaves, sprays are available eg Confidor. NSW,QLD,VIC,SA,WA. Many new varieties becoming available.

Cape Plumbago - Plumbago capensis

Plumbago is a fast growing shrub that can grow to a height of 2 to 3 m. flowering occurs most of the year, with very colourful white and blue flowring varieties. As a hedge it can be grown from 1 m up to 2.5m. One of the quickest growing hedges, it has the drawback of requiring lots of pruning. It is however very tough and waterwise onces established. Pest, are also no problem. NSW, QLD,VIC,TAS,SA,WA,NT.

Bush Christmas - Acmena. var

Bush Christmas is one of the newer Lilly Pilly varieties now available as a hedging plant. It has been around for a few years now and is one of the better varities available. It can grow into a shrub to 3m, but makes a great hedge from 40cm up to 2m+. Can be a bit slow growing to create a tall hedge, but for lower hedges is excellent. The new foliage in winter and spring/early summer, is a rich red colour. Best to grow in full sun but will take some shade. Lilly Pilly Psyllid can effect them but this is rare. Organically rich, well drained soil is best. NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA.
