The very nature of cottage plants means that they tend to be plants that sprawl. As a result they do need at times to have a good prune back to maintain shape and vigour. The life of the plant can be extended by regular pruning. We find the best tool to prune back your cottage plants is a hedge trimmer. This allows you to do a fast hard prune, or a lite trim to maintain plant shape. By giving your cottage plants a trim you enhance the way the plant "tillers" this assists creating a nice shape and also helps the roots develop strongly. Generally as a rule it is best to do any pruning soon after the plant has flowered.
