Hi,
I am hoping you can help me. I live in Quinns Rock in Western Australia and have recently bought a house. The lawn seems to be fairly new (around 6 months) and it has started to develop brown patches which are spreading. I have fed and regularly watered it, bit it seems to be spreading to and is approx 4 sqm. Any ideas what I can do? Someone mentioned a beetle that might be killing off the roots, is that possible.? Thanks Wynand, Quinns Rock WA
Hi Wynand,
You have very sandy soils in Perth, I tend to think it may be that problem called "dry patch" this can be solved by using a wetting agent. Some of the granular ones are very good, for a quick solution, use a hose on liquid wetting agent. If it is "dry patch" it will come back again next year, you may have to treat it a number of times to overcome the problem. Most people in Perth seem to have reticulations systems also, I would make sure that the pop-up sprinklers in the lawn are in the right positions (Eg layout) and are working properly. In regard to lawn beetles these also can do damage in the way you are speaking and can be active in Spring and Autumn. You can get lawn beetle killer (granules) from your local nursery, use these also, if the wetting agents do not work.
