The Irish Strawberry Tree is a hardy and unusual looking tree which can grow to a height of around 6m. The tree normally has a short truck, with a bushy rounded spread. The tree is evergreen and drought tolerant in cool temperate to temperate climates. It can also withstand moderately heavy frosts. The foliage is small, green and glossy. The Irish Strawberry Tree produces many red, rounded fruit, which look similar in colour and texture to a strawberry. (not suitable for eating) The fruit hang on the tree for much of the year. This tree can be shaped and responds well to pruning any time of the year. Strawberry trees can live a very long time 100 years plus and will grow in most soils including heavy clay soils. Generally this is a very low maintenance tree, once planted and shaped it will require minimal care.
