Portulaca are a small succulent looking groundcover which is known for its vibrant coloured flowers. Growing to a height of 10cm and a spread of around 30cm. The colours available are incredible, the plant producing many various colours on the one plant ! The colours available are lemon, mauve, pink, salmon, white, red and crimson. Portulaca is used mainly as a rockery and boarder plant. They grow in the warmer parts of the year. Planting occurs in early spring. The great advantage of using Portulaca is that they do not requie as much water as other annuals. They will also grow in sandy soils. Full sun is important. Another feature of Portulaca is that they will self seed and pop up around the garden in future years.
