Salvias are bushy annuals, which can last a number of years in excellent conditions. Salvias grow to a height of 60cm with a spread of 50cm. They develop numerous flower heads that shoot upwards like little sky rockets. The flower colours are vibrant blues, reds and whites. They make a great plant to plant along a fence or as a background plant. They can be cut back after flowering. This will produce new growth and more flowers. Full sun positions are best, with a organically rich , well drained soil. Soil enrichment with manures Eg, sheep or cow manure, will assist root development. Moderate watering is required. Salvias make good potted plants, a large pot is best to maintain moisture.
